Government Accelerates Data Privacy Regulatory Framework

New Delhi, March 25, 2024 - The Indian government is poised to release the final rules for the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act this April, signalling a significant step forward in the country's data privacy landscape.

According to a senior government official speaking to Economic Times, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has nearly completed its comprehensive review of public comments received during the consultation process that began on January 3.

The official revealed that approximately two-thirds of the submitted comments have already been reviewed, with the remaining one-third expected to be analyzed shortly. "We should be able to finalize the rules by the end of next month," the official stated.
